These ships featured in this work aren't just starships. They're actual spaceborne lifeforms within the world of my "The Magix" concept work based on Winx Club animated series.
.
Frigate is a small capital ship, larger than a corvette but smaller than escort or cruiser, well suited for utilitarian tasks. Onny'S'taa are artificial lifeforms created by an ancient civilization which has fell thousands of years ago (although its successor cultures thriving in the Magical dimension nowadays). They're nomadic culture, spread in hundreds of clans (which they call sects, also known by other cultures as swarms) with varying degree of relationship between themselves and outside people. Around half of known Onny'S'taa clans are hostile. The others tend to have no deal with other clans or outsiders. Only few clans align themselves with main kingdoms of Magical dimension (primarily Domino, Melody, Zenith, Serenia and Romulea). Some of hostile clans would be the first personal enemies of Earth, when they start venturing outside Sol system at a late point the 'The Magix' concept - theye have outposts in neighbouring systems like Proxima Centuarus.
.
Onny'S'taa have semi-collective mind, each species member being able to act on their own or under command of the specific group or the whole clan. They have two ways of reproduction. One is 'birth' which is performed on nursery stations commonly built in Onny'S'taa's shipyards. Second one is assimilation of outsiders' ships - by performing a complex magical ritual, one or few Onny'S'taa ships transform them into their own kin. The resulting specimen retains shape features of original vehicle, but, unlike Borg in Star trek, cannot be dismantled back to original. There's very little consistency in Onny'S'taa hull shapes as assimilated ships come from various cultures. It is only maintained within 'born' Onny'S'taa specimen. The specimen shown in render are just examples of what Onny'S'taa can possibly look like.
.
They are well proficient in magical arts capable performing spells and rituals that none of organic beings could do. Their life force is sustained completely with magic, and as such, they fall into magical creatures and magical ships category, but they have specific inner workings similar to living creatures (that are irreversible for almost all of spacefaring cultures), which place Onny'S'taa only in former category.
P.S. What can happen to them if magic is suddenly suppressed (via use of Shaab stone or meddling with Tree of life)? They go inert until magic supressors are gone allowing them to restore to full functionality.
.
Onny'S'taa's hull designs are simplistic and geometric. They're commonly colored in yellowish and golden colors. They could have a specific paintjobs applied depending on clans - thus the ships shown in render are 'blank' ones. Their magic is colored in shades of green. Their hulls are divided in multiple floating sections that move in breathing manner with circular modules rotating. Glowing circles and runes indicate magic hardpoints that are used to release magic for propulsion or performing magical arts. The Onny'S'taa specimen shown in render are two different frigate designs. First one is a drabant, a heavy warrior in Onny'S'taa clan. It's function is to patrol, support fighter forces in battles and engage enemy corvettes, frigates and cruisers. It's U-shaped hull is derived from the Onny'S'taa's ancestors' designs - a common design for 'born' Onny'S'taa specimen. Second one is a forger (or a smith), distinguishable from other roles by presense of large crystallic emitter. Mainly acts as worker who builds structures like stations and shipyards and performs other civillian duties. If deployed to battlefield, forgers act as supporting vessels. The forger's design in render is an assimilated one.
.
As a source of inspiration I used a Star Trek Online's concept art of Aetherian ship for drabant, Star Conflict's frigate Ronin for the forger and Star Trek Online's Aetherian ships designs together with Star Conflict's biomorphs for whole Onny'S'taa's concept.
